Graduate Assistantships with the University of New Haven Department of Athletics

Graduate Assistantships may be available with the University of New Haven Department of Athletics.

Students should indicate in which graduate assistantship they are interested in their statement of purpose as part of their application to the M.S. Sport Management program. In addition to elaborating on why they are interested in the master’s program, the statement of purpose should detail the applicant’s career interests and how the graduate assistantship would serve them in preparing towards the workforce upon graduation.

Student applications will be evaluated by the M.S. Sport Management program coordinator for admission purposes. Upon positive admissions decision, resumes of the prospective graduate assistants will be sent to the Athletic Department for consideration. The Department of Athletics will invite candidates to interview and make the hiring decision.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Must be accepted into University of New Haven Graduate Program prior to position start date
  • Experience in college athletics, preferred.


Assistant Coach

Reports to: Head Coach

Sports: Baseball, Men’s Basketball, Women’s Basketball, Field Hockey (2), Football (4) , Men’s & Women’s Golf, Women’s Lacrosse, Women’s Rugby, Men’s Soccer, Women’s Soccer, Softball (2), Women’s Tennis, Men’s & Women’s Track and Field, Women’s Volleyball

Job Description:

The primary responsibility will be to assist the head coach in all facets of the program, including the recruitment of student-athletes, organization and planning of practices, game preparation, administrative duties, scouting and monitoring of student-athlete academic progress. Previous participation and/or coaching experience is preferred.

Internal Operations

Reports to: Associate Director of Athletics for Internal Operations

Job Description: Responsible for assisting in the areas of contest management and special events, oversight and scheduling of student workers and facilities, and event marketing and promotions.

Business Operations and External Relations

Reports to: Senior Associate Director of Athletics for Business Operations + External Affairs

Job Description: Assist in supporting the general business needs of the Department of Athletics including but not limited to: preparing deposits, purchase orders, check requisitions and reconciling department P-Cards. Work with Sr. Associate AD in the stewardship of existing and solicitation of new partners for the corporate sponsorship program.

Compliance and Student-Athlete Services

Reports to: Senior Associate Director of Athletics Compliance and Student-Athlete Services

Job Description: Assist the Associate Athletic Director for Compliance & Student-Athlete Services with NCAA eligibility, recruiting, roster management, and issuing National Letters of Intent. Plan and assist with Make-a-Wish fundraising efforts and the Scholar Athlete Breakfast. Communicate effectively with coaches, student-athletes, and athletics staff.

Equipment Manager (2)

Reports to: Assistant Director of Athletics – Equipment Operations

Job Description: Responsible for inventory control, maintenance, and repair of athletic apparel and equipment, including laundry services. This role involves preparing gear for road games, organizing and managing athletic gear, supervising student managers, and handling additional projects and duties as assigned.

Nutrition

Reports to: Assistant Director of Athletics – Sports Performance

Job Description: Oversee nutrition volunteer staff and manage the Nutrition Fueling Station, ensuring proper food safety and adherence to performance nutrition standards. Conduct consultations, evaluations, and provide guidelines to support athletes' performance goals, including meal planning and food selection education. Monitor the Training Table for quality control, assist with game day meal operations, and manage dietary needs related to allergies and dietary restrictions. Collaborate with athletic staff, food service providers, and manage supplement distribution in compliance with NCAA regulations.

Sports Information (3)

Reports to: Associate Director of Athletics - Strategic Communications

Job Description: Responsible for assisting with the day-to-day and game-day operations of the Athletic Communications Office. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, writing and distributing press releases, updating the Department of Athletics website, creating graphics and content for use on the department’s social media accounts, designing and editing game programs, prepare announcer scripts, designing and updating graphics for in-game live video broadcasts, inputting and calling for statistical entry at selected events and maintaining historical records.

Strength and Conditioning (2)

Reports to: Assistant Director of Athletics – Sports Performance

Job Description: Supports the design and implementation of strength and conditioning programs for student-athletes, focusing on improving performance and reducing injury risk. This role involves supervising workout sessions, assisting with athlete assessments, and maintaining weight room equipment. Additionally, the graduate assistant collaborates with coaches and athletic trainers to ensure a holistic approach to athlete development.

Athletic Training Operations

Reports to: Director of Sports Medicine

Job Description: Responsibilities include managing administrative paperwork, ensuring seamless practice and game setups, assisting with inventory management, and contributing to the day-to-day operations of the department. This position offers a valuable opportunity for a recent graduate to gain hands-on experience in athletic training administration while contributing to the overall success of the athletic program.
