The University of New Haven Paramedicine program has been issued a Letter of Review by the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP). This letter is NOT a CAAHEP accreditation status, it is a status signifying that a program seeking initial accreditation has demonstrated sufficient compliance with the accreditation standards through the Letter of Review Self Study Report (LSSR) and other documentation. Letter of Review is recognized by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) for eligibility to take the National Registry's Paramedic credentialing examination(s). However, it is NOT a guarantee of eventual accreditation. To contact CoAEMSP: visit or call (214) 703-8445.
Develop the skills that save lives
A paramedic has a level of knowledge, skill, and treatment capabilities that are significantly beyond those of an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and which can dramatically improve a patient’s outcome at the hospital. In response to the need for these uniquely trained emergency medical care professionals, the University of New Haven developed its paramedicine program. This program will prepare you to become a new breed of first responder – one who holds dual certification as both a firefighter and as a paramedic.
Hands-on learning will be a major part of your education. You’ll ride along with ambulance services and take patients’ vitals. You’ll practice doing chest compressions and starting IV lines on high-fidelity mannequins. You’ll become part of teams who care for patients in whatever medical emergency unfolds. The goal of the paramedicine program is to make your education as real-world as it gets.

Firefighter/Paramedicine Track
Medical emergencies represent over 80% of the modern fire department’s responses today. This has resulted in a majority of the fire departments seeking fully trained paramedics to fill job openings. Across the country, there is a shortage of paramedics to fill all the available Firefighter/Paramedic positions resulting a robust job market for paramedics. Here at the University of New Haven, students are able to earn their Paramedicine B.S. Degree complete with National Registry Certification as a Paramedic and achieve a minor in Fire Science simultaneously. This innovative program takes a student with little or no experience and prepares them to be the top candidates to fill today’s modern fire department positions.
